Hi there! I'm Lauren, proud mum to Milla + Saber ♥︎ 

I started this store because of my son Saber's struggle with eczema. Within weeks of his birth, severe eczema took hold and riddled his body. We couldn't find a cause. Our mental health was impacted as first-time parents. Creams didn't work, and our GP was just pushing steroid creams at us which further added to our stress. Saber wouldn't sleep for more than an hour at a time and would wake crying. He was difficult to settle for sleep (sounds like a normal baby but this was different - it was cries of pain). Saber didn't grow or put on weight for four months and when we finally saw private specialists they declared him as "failing to thrive". We were broken.

Below is Saber at 4 months old. His body covered in eczema and scratches from him trying to itch. It took another 3 months of private specialist intervention to get him growing again. Eliminating food triggers and choosing clothing made from natural, organic fibers was key. His skin thrived in Organic Cotton, which was soft, non-irritating, and free from toxic chemicals. We were able to get his eczema mostly under control and noticed he would flare if he wore synthetic based clothing.  

Fast forward to Milla's birth in July 2021. While she didn't suffer from eczema to the same degree as Saber, she would become extremely sweaty in synthetic clothing. When she wore Saber's Organic Cotton hand-me-downs, she was more comfortable and less irritable, leading to better sleep for both of us.    

I firmly believe that children benefit from natural, organic products. They're more comfortable, and as a parent, I find peace knowing their skin isn't exposed to harmful chemicals.

Bamboo clothing may seem like a good alternative, but it often undergoes chemical processes for features like wrinkle resistance, odor control, and stain resistance. These chemicals can be absorbed by the clothing fibers and affect your child's skin.

That's why I chose Organic Cotton as the primary fiber for my babies and this small business. I'm committed to making eco-friendly choices and spreading awareness about slow fashion, the benefits of Organic Cotton, recycling and sustainability.

While one person may not make a significant difference, collective awareness can drive change. I aim to minimize my impact on the environment and promote small local businesses over fast fashion enterprises. Giving back is also essential, which is why Milla + Saber supports KidsCan NZ Charity, who provide essentials to children in New Zealand.
